Art on the River

Well, we did it....we had our first art show in a year and a half - Art on the River at historic Fort Malden in Amherstburg. The organizers took COVID precautions - more spacing, no food vendors or live music, and one way traffic flow. We took some extra precautions to feel more comfortable, including Jane's brilliant inclusion of a clear plastic shower curtain across our tent, separating us from customers.

Attendance was good, and sales were good.....but the weather was brutally hot and humid. We were lucky to have some trees for shade and an intermittent breeze, but otherwise just downright nasty. Besides COVID, our rusty set-up skills were sorely tested by a new layout, designed to feature slate pieces more.

It worked quite well, once we figured it all out. Thankfully we had signed up for early set-up on the Friday, and I took the day off. At least we weren't rushing or stressing on Saturday morning.

We also decided last minute to make it a bit of a fundraiser for the Wheatley gas explosion - besides donating $5 per sale to the cause, we had generous people just offer to contribute without buying anything. In the end, we raised a total of $350 to donate to the needy families displaced by the disaster.

That may be it for the year....but at least we got a show in there!
