Scandinavia - Day 12

We were up early after a less than comfortable sleep, and left Skjervsfossen to find a quieter spot to make coffee. Making our way down Road 13, after a quick stop for a nice picture of the waterfal from below, we entered a long tunnel leading to a roundabout UNDER the mountain, which led us across the epic Hardangerbrua. A mightly bridge, with each end emerging from a tunnel under a mountain, spanning the Hardangerfjord.

We stopped across the bridge at a rest stop, to make our morning coffee. Then we carried on south along Road 13, an absolutely beautiful route along the Sorfjord with ample orchards tumbling down steep slopes to the water. There were some dicey moments in narrow stretches, but we also stopped at some roadside stands for fresh plums and apple cider.

The oddest thing happened at Odda - we got stopped in a police "ride program" at 1030am, requiring me to take a breathalyzer. We knew that Norway was very strict on drinking and driving....but even so, this seemed somewhat extreme. Thankfully I "passed" (0.00%) and we were back on our way.

We drove several more tunnels along the way - each of which literally has its own name in Norway. Every single one. We made a stop at the Latefossen waterfall, which was very popular and very busy. We took our pictures and moved on, but some people were fairly lackadaisical about walking across the road and treated the highway as if it wasn't a highway.

We had planned to have lunch at Latefossen, but drove on to Skare instead, where we found a quiet spot to pull over for a sandwich and fruit break. Soon after Skare, we took the E134 split off the 13 and carried on southwest.

We stopped again at Langfoss, another large waterfall cascading down across the highway. After buying a few souvenirs at the local kiosk, we noted that a rental car had parked badly and nearly blocked us in - which also nearly led to an "international" in the parking lot as Jane and the woman traded verbal jabs.

No lasting harm done, we continued on and chose to get a campsite for the night at the quaint village of Kyrping, with a stunning view of Akrafjord. We had considered getting closer to Stavanger, but we decided to stop and enjoy some showers and a relaxing evening. We did laundry, and made fusili with spicy Dolmio sauce while chillaxing under the tailgate.

It's a really BIG bridge!

Another stunning drive - this time along Sorfjord

Eyes left!

A rare sight in rural Norway! (versus all the Yields and Roundabouts)

The park job that nearly caused a domestic, er, International!

This never gets old
