We finally got to attend the (newly returned and improved) Fish Fest in our little town. Usually there is an art show elsewhere this weekend that keeps us from attending Fish Fest, but this year (and hopefully ever after) it was fortuitously moved to a later date.
Friday night featured live music along with food and drink at the conservation area.
Saturday saw a Series of Fortunate Events down at the harbour - for us, that included a vendor show. Unfortunately for us, the day and setup begin with gusting wind and driving rain. Setup was a challenge, but the hardy villagers came out anyway, some even hanging out in our tent to wait out the worst of the downpours. We even had some friends stop by for a timely visit, to help hold down out tent and our neighbour's during the period of strongest gusts.
There was also a tug-of-war across the harbour, and fish tote races. Later in the evening, they put on a delicious fish fry and broasted chicken dinner at the arena, which we attended with some friends, before local rocker Jody Raffoul entertained the gathered crowd.
Sunday the action shifted to the main intersection of the village. After the Fish Fest parade made it's way from uptown to downtown and dispersed, we set up again with some other vendors on the closed off street. All around us, classic cars swooped in and parked to line the streets in all directions. There was live music and food at L'il Hil's, and the Renny's patio was open for business with delicious smokehouse pulled pork sandwiches washed down with local brews from Top Dog. The evening culminated with fireworks back at the harbour.
On Canada Day Monday, we went for a pleasant walk along the shore at the provincial park, before enjoying corn on the cob with BBQ chicken. There was some mandatory work in there as well, like cutting the grass, laundry and prepping for the upcoming renovation. Once darkness fell, we rounded out the weekend with Sharknado on the big screen on the back deck.
Happy Canada Day! Happy Fish Fest!
