While still a rugged town, the main street of Vernazza from the train station to the harbour was a little more crutch-friendly for Jane. We grabbed some breakfast at the Blue Marlin cafe, before exploring the town. I also did part of the steep hike towards Corniglia - twice - to get some great photographs from above. We found a good lunch spot in the main square outside our apartment, and had a wonderful patio lunch of caprese salad and pesto pizza (me), and fennel salad and pasta (Jane) at Ristorante Vulnetia.
Opting to lounge along the harbour breakwall and enjoy the sun with a gelato, we ran into Finnish couple Marianne and Jarmo from the previous night's boat tour. The innocent question "who feels like a beer?" turned into an afternoon of international camaraderie at a seaside bar....involving not only beer but aperol and limoncello spritzes a-plenty. We also learned two ways to say "Cheers!" in Finnish - the relatively simple "kippis" or the considerably more difficult "Hölkynkölkyn"!
The four of us chose to have dinner at Vulnetia again as a close and quality option, though we ate inside this time to enjoy the fabulous decor. After we bid farewell to the Finns, who were travelling onward to Florence, we had only to make our way up that very steep staircase nearby.
