Big Music Fest

Attended Big Music Fest last weekend near Bobcaygeon, on the idyllic shores of Pigeon Lake. Pretty hard to argue with seeing The Tragically Hip, Sam Roberts Band, and The Trews (and let's not forget Miss Emily) all in one venue.

All the bands were incredible. The Trews put on their usual high energy rock show, and Sam Roberts and his Band were dialed in to their groove. The Hip finally pulled out "Bobcaygeon" late in their two-hour set, and even threw in "Nautical Disaster" nestled as a break right in the middle of "New Orleans is Sinking".

Great show, crazy lineups and good concert weather - overcast with the odd shower but far preferable to baking in the sun.

The aftermath was insane as 27,000 fans tried to find their way in the dark around a muddy farm, everyone looking for the right shuttle bus. Buses were getting stuck, roads were jammed, people were panicking...but in the end we all managed to find our way back to the motel in Fenelon Falls.

Ah, the memories.

1st Annual Beaverfest

Couldn't resist attending at least one night of Beaverfest, the inaugural weekend long rock show at the new outdoor amphitheatre on the riverfront between Windsor and Detroit. We went mainly to see The Trews, but several other good bands graced the lineup as well.

Perfect weather, good food and drink on-site. Danko Jones was awesome with good hard entertaining rock, Dean Lickyer from Hamilton were surprisingly good, Finger Eleven was decent....but of course The Trews ruled the night.

As singer Colin MacDonald put it best, "every rock show is a beaverfest if you're doin' it right".

Dirty Races and Furry Faces

First visit of the season this weekend to the dirt track stock car races at South Buxton Speedway. The wet spring has wreaked havoc upon the 3/8 mile oval clay track, but the crew managed to pull it together....at least for half the night, until it started raining again and they had to call it early.

The track was pretty sloppy, but that just made things all the more entertaining.....plus the first four rows of the grandstand became a muddy splash zone.
