Pennywise the Ass-Clown

A few pics of poor misunderstood Pennywise - former scourge of the neighbourhood and now resident happily-caged feline.

Cat Cage for a Cagey Cat

Spent a considerable portion of the past two weekends acquiring, moving and assembling an outdoor cat run for Pennywise, our ertswhile evil stray turned lovable underdog (undercat?). Sure, he used to terrorize us and our cats...until we captured him and found out he was injured, with a dislocated jaw and bad ears. Now he's the biggest suck in the world, so we're building an outdoor area to house His Highness.

Matthew Good at The Loop

So it was a work night, but how often can you see music of Matt Good's caliber that is both nearby and intimate? Sleep be damned.

From the outside, The Loop looks like it should be condemned. We've often wondered (in the daytime) if it's even open at all, and the For Sale sign (see below) did little to assuage our concerns. Inside, however, is where the magic happens.....great venue for live music!

The opening band, The Gentlemen Husbands from Cobourg, were decent. Matthew Good and friends were incredible. Wrapped up with penultimate "Apparitions" and then closed with "Weapon". Sadly, through no fault of the band the two encore songs could not compete, but they soldiered on anyway.

Home by 1:00am, not much sleep but well worth it. Tired but happy!

Ditch Kitties

Home alone a few weeks back, outside at midnight looking for one of our own cats, in the still of the night that only our quiet rural road can afford. In the distance, my supernatural hearing detects the soft mewling of feline distress. So I wander down the road towards the corner...

Long story short - there I am in the utter dark, down in our very deep ditch with a flashlight in my mouth and cheap $4 Chinese imitation "crocs", on my 4th attempt at rescuing two kittens hunkered in the ditch under the saddest Charlie Brown Christmas Tree(TM) you've ever seen. Needless to say, it is hard enough to get down into the 10' high ditch (a conservative estimate), but much harder to get back up, with no use of your hands because you are holding two panicked kitties!

Not sure if they were abandoned by their mother, or abandoned by some "locals".

Another long story short - they spent a few weeks in our capable care, were temporarily dubbed "Ember" and "Oreo", and thankfully with help we found them good homes in relatively short order. About a day after I found them, a major thunderstorm turned that ditch and their hunkered home into a fast-flowing torrent headed for Lake Erie.

Lucky I didn't break my neck in the effort.
