Scandinavia - Day 16

We made good on our plan to re-visit Voringfossen, after experiencing heavy fog the first time around. We were among the only people there this time, and far more of the waterfall and valley below were visible from the rim. Truly a stunning location, and the weather was far more flattering this time.

We lingered long enough that the hotel cafe opened at 9am, so we enjoyed our first coffee and some treats.....before grabbing a second coffee to go!

We set out for a long driving day, starting east along Highway 7 and re-tracing our passage over the high and windy mountain plateau - much nicer today! At Geilo, we took the roundabout onto Road 40 south, up and over another mountain and down the other side, following the meandering river.

Lunch came in the form of Circle K hot dogs in Lampemann, along with our 9th "free" coffee, as we neared mathematical freedom from the Coffee Contract. We also took the opportunity to visit the REMA 1000 across the store for a final grocery run.

After negotiating some roundabouts at Kongsberg, we stayed on the 40 and continued south through increasingly pastoral landscapes. We rode Road 40 all the way to the end of the line, at Larvik on the south coast, and then wound our way out to the Molen geopark. After spending a few hours walking the rock beach and volcanic shoreline, we took the "long way" back to the van.

Nice weather had definitely helped, but we had driven for about six hours and had covered a wide swath of southern Norway. After a delicious single-pot dinner of chicken and fresh vegetables, we relaxed with Winston and enjoyed a nice sunset over the south coast.

Voringfossen (and bridge)....sans fog!

A magical valley

Well worth a second stop!
