Gong Show 2022 - Part I

With COVID lingering, albeit waning to the milder Omicron variant, a road trip was still the only travel option that met out comfort level, affording the ability to control our surroundings. Gas prices took an unfortunate time to spike to an all-time high, but we set off undeterred in our little Juke.

The road trip to the East Coast started with a BANG - literally. After a quick overnight in eastern Ontario, we headed out in earnest early the next morning. Around Gananoque, something hit the windshield loudly, leaving one rather suspicious looking mark amidst the myriad bug splatters.

By the time we hit Brockville, we also received news that the friends we planned to spend a week with in PEI had COVID. As I continued to drive into Quebec, Jane went into Solution Mode and began looking for alternative places to stay where we could still manage some distanced outdoor visits.

The Montreal by-pass was relatively peaceful, and we sped up the eastern bank of the St. Lawrence. We also discovered that apps for curbside pickup also help with the language barrier, especially when dealing with food allergies and words I'm not so familiar with en Francais. We stopped for the night at a nice quiet motel, with a Subway conveniently located in the same parking lot. Once again, their app proved it's worth!

Off again early the next morning, we grabbed a quick curbside coffee in Edmundston, then stopped a little further along the marvel at beautiful Grand Falls. From there, we left the Trans-Canada and took the somewhat sketchy interior route, the Plaster Rock Road across to Miramichi.

We followed the coast down into southern New Brunswick, and spent the night at a motel in Shediac, after a nice visit to Parlee Beach Provincial Park.
