Gong Show 2022 - Part II

We arrived in PEI earlier than usual, after the short jaunt from Shediac. For the first time ever, an embarrassing oversight on our part, we stopped on the New Brunswick side of the Confederation Bridge to check out a different view.

Once on The Island, we carried on through the ten or so rotaries to get to and through Charlottetown, before arriving to visit our friends near Montague. Knowing one of them was COVID positive, we had already planned a very distant outdoor visit....and of course now the other spouse was positive as well.

After a good visit with favourable weather, we headed over to our chosen motel, a short 20-minute drive away. Rachel's Cabins were perfectly rustic, run by some very sweet people, and very affordable at $55 per night. Moreover, apparently some tourism promotion meant that a 2-night stay got you a $100 gift card to spend at participating locations around PEI. So for $110 stay, we got $100on a pre-loaded card!

With more "down time" than anticipated, we found other ways to enjoy the Island. There are lots of great hikes in the general area, and we tackled the particularly rugged Gairloch Trail. Unfortunately, our plan to do the "short version" turned into a nearly 2-hour slog through the bush when the "short loop" was too heavily overgrown. Good thing we brought some food and water!

We also took the opportunity to have our Ontario stone chip addressed by the wonderful folks at the Speedy Glass in Montague, who squeezed us in with no notice and got us back on our way with one less worry. Of course, we also had to visit nearby Buffaloland Park to see the resident bison.
