US Road Trip 2012 - Day 2

Tuesday, March 6, 2012

Leaving early, we set off along "Route 66" through the remainder of Missouri. The winds picked up as we passed into the wide open spaces of Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle, buffeting the Juke as we enjoyed 75 mph speed limits on the rural interstates.

We even stopped for a gas and a quick meal at a cool McDonalds in Vinta, Oklahoma, the Golden Arches actually straddling Interstate 40.

After listening to "The Hunger Games" on audiobook for much of the day, we stopped for the night at a cheap hotel in Amarillo, TX, and enjoyed the local cuisine at Whataburger.

PICS
1. Following the Mother Road
2. Cool McDonalds at Vinta, OK
3. Entering Texas at the panhandle
4. Sunset over Amarillo

You lost me on this one.

Seriously? 75 mph?

I couldn't concentrate on the rest of the day's blog. Had to go back and check. Mental calculations...

Seriously? 75 mph?

Yep, most of the "quiet" states where there is nothing but land and deer.....which of course means we were doing 80 mph most of the time. Great way to get somewhere in a hurry.
