Europe 2018 Day 16 - Paris

We spent our first full day in Paris strolling the Seine River, quite literally. After a relaxing coffee near the hotel, we walked slowly westward, roughly following the river through the Jardins des Tuileries, Place de la Concorde and along the Champs-Elysees. Stopping at the stunning Pont Alexandre III, to view Les Invalides (home of Napoleon's tomb), we continued onwards under cool but relatively sunny skies towards the Eiffel Tower.

Along the way, Jane apparently "dropped her ring" about five times, as local scam artists tried to present her with the ring she "dropped"....and then ask for money in exchange. We actually got to see them try it on other people too.....by which time Jane was laughing so hard they didn't dare try it on her!

We had lunch under the Eiffel Tower, before heading back towards the hotel. We opted for the two-day Batobus pass, and to spare Jane's knees travelled back by water as far as Notre-Dame Cathedral and Ile de la Cite, a little east of our lodgings.

We walked back to the hotel from there, crossing Pont Neuf before cutting across through the Louvre. Jane as always soldiered on, too enamoured by her surroundings to pay heed to knee and arm pain. Finding a handy Carrefour supermarket in the block behind our hotel, I picked up dinner (baguette and ham!), snacks and wine before retiring to the room for the evening.
