Europe 2018 Day 5 - Corfu

We left Montenegro behind and sailed on to the island of Corfu, located just off the mainland where Albania meets Greece. With no particular excursion booked, we walked off the ship to explore the town on foot, taking Jane's rented wheelchair ashore for the long and flat (albeit cobblestoned) stretch around the harbour.

Once in the main part of the town, we ventured down narrow alleys and shopping lanes, before stopping for a cold drink in a quaint square. Winding our way slowly back towards the ship, we stopped for some lunch and an obligatory Greek salad.

Once back abooard the ship, a miffy Captain Mattias voiced his displeasure on the inrtercom over the fact that we were waiting for a few stragglers to return before the ship could depart. We sat on deck with drinks and literally watched as a bus and a few cabs delivered frantic people back to the boat as Norwegian security staff admonished them to hurry aboard.

Our path back out of the harbour took us along the Old Town waterfront and past the "old fort" at the point, before we cleared the island and set a southeasterly course along the Greek mainland.

Buses await the wave of shore excursions...

The "new" Venetian fortress overlooking the town....

....but proudly flying the Greek flag these days!

This looks like a nice place for a break

Welcome!
